Project 01: Sequences and Time

  • Re-tell an existing story so that it is presented differently
  • The outcome must convey time and movement

Considerations

  • Movement, kinetic, motion, being in motion
  • Animation, bring to ‘life’, re-animation, re-enactment
  • Sequence and perspective, the ordering of information for narration
  • Time, historical time, past, present and future
  • Ordering, categorisations and presentations of time

It may be fictional or based on events that are known to have happened

  • A familiar or popular narrative such as a myth, fable, legend, novel, film etc.
  • A long past historical event
  • A recent happening that is related to current affairs

Consider what a ‘story’ is in the broadest sense

The ‘story’ you decide to work may exist in any form.

  • A news article or report broadcast
  • A monument; natural or built.
  • A piece of music
  • A poem or short story
  • A feature film, animation, or piece of archival footage.
  • An artwork, painting sculpture.

Choose something that interests and inspires you.

You may want to

  • present a different perspective
  • offer an original creative adaptation
  • reimagine the story in a different context

What are the different meanings and messages that are associated with your story?

  • What elements of the story would you like to focus on?
  • How else could this information be represented?
  • What affects would these changes make?

Outcome

  • movement through time presented in a static sequence
  • a moving image, animation or film
  • a physical or digital kinetic object or thing

Consider

  • How can time and movement be conveyed through different media and forms?
  • How can time and movement be communicated through imagery and sequence?
  • How does time and movement relate to your story?

My ideas

  • Inspired by a Japanese literature ‘’I Am A Cat’’
  • Create an short animation
  • Change the time = present, main character = myself
  • Through first person perspective as a cat
  • To show what’s a cat’s life would be throughout the day
  • Show cat has human thoughts (thinking bubble?)
  • Mood: Sarcastic, whimsy
